Function of the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

According to TCM theories balance and harmony of the body-mind interaction is the basic determinant of healthy life. Ancient Chinese phylosophy claims that interrelation of two opposite forces in nature comprises the network of all things and events. One of these forces, which represents everything passive, heavy, cold, pale, watery, etc. is called Yin and the other, which stands for everything active, light, warm, bright, firery, etc. is called Yang.
Application of this theory in medicine can be presented on the following example. If a person has quick movement habits (Yang) and red face (Yang) so his high blood pressure would indicate on prevalence Yang enegy over Yin energy and the treatmen option will be done in accordance with established imbalance, i.e. increase Yin and decrease Yang. The latter will be achieved through avoiding of Yang-featured lifestyle behaviour (consumption of meat and alcohol as well as staying away from high-intensity exercises) in favor of Yin-featured modalities (consumption of watery vegetables and engagement in exercises with low intensity). The way, by which acupuncture is applied also has Yang and Yin types of needle manipulation. So, through logical usage of Yin – Yang theory traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture in particular is able to manage many chronic health problems, hardly treated by conventional medicine.
